Adult Curling

Following are the Week 4 results of the Northwest Arena Fall Backyard Curling Leagues, sponsored by Dot’s Gift Boutique, results:

5:45 MONDAY LEAGUE

Stone Cold Curlers were the only team to go 2-0 this week, securing the top of the division. They did so by knocking off CurlRoma, 46-31, and Curling Me Softly, 34-27, as they were led by Alex Miller and Brian Franklin. Shoeless Joe’s Pub defeated Legion of Broom, 38-37, with Andrea Carlson leading the way. Legion of Broom had another one-point lost to Pepsi Rockstar-Z, 46-45, as Kellie Wagner was the outstanding curler. Curling Me Softly defeated the Pepsi Banger-z, 38-31, with a combined team effort. The Banger-Z bounced back with a 31-28 win over Shoeless Joe’s with a John Bernard stellar performance. CurlRona got its first win of the year, as it knocked off Scuba Crew (40-30) with strong play from Jade Barber. Scuba Crew opened up its night with a victory over the Pepsi Rockstar-Z (38-32), thanks to strong play from Cathy Johner.

6:45 MONDAY LEAGUE

Short & Curly remains the only undefeated team in the entire 50-team league at Northwest Arena this fall, improving to 8-0, as it defeated On the Rocks, 48-38, and The Outsliders, 33-31, as Jamie Smith and John Fisk continued on their hot start to the season. Mary’s Smooth Red Curlers moved into second place, as they went 2-0 on the week with wins over The Outsliders, 40-38, and Always Late, but Worth the Wait, 28-21, with Sam Lisciandro and Dennis Finnerty leading the way. Rolling Stones had a cliff-hanger as they defeated On the Rocks, 31-28, as Leslie Disbro stuck it to the Rocks, to seal the win. Always Late, but Worth the Wait defeated Joe’s Slammers, 38-37, as Miguel Colon continued to show his curling prowess. Stone Cold also recorded a win over Joe’s Slammers, 51-39, and Rolling Stones, 43-30, with their top curlers Andy Sears and Jon Blanchard.

WARREN JEEP WEDNESDAY LEAGUE

Newcomers Rocks on, Rocks off won the longest game ever played in Backyard Curling history as they defeated TRCurlers, 52-49, in triple overtime with Jim Cama’s game-winning stone. They also earned their second win of the night, as they knocked off Home Despots behind strong play from Chris Maggio. Going 1-1 on the night, were the TRCurlers as they bounced back with a win over Golfers on Ice, 44-34, behind Beth Jermain’s strong play. Also, defeating the Golfers, were the Hindy’s Hurlers (55-33) as they received some outstanding curling stickwork from Kim and Tim Hurley. Merrill Lynch Cirls knocked off Hindy’s Hurlers earlier, 32-30, as Dawn Stuart also showed off her stickwork prowess. The other victory on the night went to Home Despots as they defeated the Cirls, 42-34, with Todd Singleton earning the first star.

WARREN JEEP WEDNESDAY LEAGUE

The Brush Off remained in first place, as it earned two victories over Sky Rocketeers (46-27) and Curls Gone Wild (37-35) with Alex Jacque and Jarrett Kingsbury being the top curlers. Jamestown Hammers also went 2-0 on the night, as they also defeated the Rocketeers, 41-29, and Throwing Stones, 49-34, with Kristin Darr and Jeremy Holland leading the way. The Cremators elevated their record to 7-1 with wins over Curls Gone Wild, 36-32, and Paving Ice, 45-28) as they received outstanding play from Scott Nelson and Jim Cowan. Paving Ice bounced back with a victory over Lewis and Lewis, 20-13, as Kevin Gastol led the way. Glenn Wilcock, along with daughter Cathy Panebianco, for Lewis and Lewis were too much to handle as they defeated Throwing Stones, 30-27, in their second game.

WARREN JEEP WEDNESDAY LEAGUE

Steve Chambers and Bryan Olson continued delivering their hot stones as they led league-leading Dot’s Gift Boutique to another 2-0 week by defeating Curl Power, 36-20, and Rolling Rocks, 40-30. Peterson’s Candies/Neil’s Propane kept pace with Dot’s by recording two wins, as they bested Ready to Rock, 33-29, and New Kicks, 36-14, with Tim Sturges showing his curling prowess. All going 1-1 this week, were Rolling Rocks, as they also defeated New Kicks, 41-25, led by Wayne Rishell; the Joly Riches, who knocked off The Oldies, but Goodies, 30-26, as Sara Joly was the smooth curler, as did Ready to Rock, 32-18, with Lindsey Johnson being the leading curler. Curl Power earned a victory by defeating the Joly Riches, 28-23, as Danelle Karlson was their first star.

4:30 FRIDAY LEAGUE

Newcomers The Chestnuts had their first two-victory sweep over Fruit of the Brooms, 38-32, and Justin Other Team, 38-37, as they were led by Barb and Mike Lyons. We’ve Got the Stones picked up two wins over Freezerburn, 51-42, and Elks Club, 43-41, with Brian Rossey being the top curler. 4 Below Haggy’s Bar & Grille knocked off the Seminar Group, 52-43, as they received outstanding play from Terry Garvin. Seminar Group bounced back with a 38-30 victory over the Button Mashers, with Rob White leading the way. Freezerburn topped Sweeping Beauties in a close one, 35-34, with Steve Tanner being their outstanding curler. Sweeping Beauties recorded a win over Baby Broomers, 49-42, as Chuck Ludwig led the Beauties and Jeff Johnson was the Broomer’s MVP in defeat. The Button Mashers defeated the Elks Club, 39-37, as Joanna Paterniti was the outstanding player for the Mashers and Paul Rizzo led the way for the Elksmen.
