Relay Qualifies For Nationals

Foursome Finishes Fourth In State, Sets Section VI Record

STATEN ISLAND — Falconer/Cassadaga Valley/Maple Grove/Frewsburg/Randolph’s boys 1,600-meter relay team made some history on Long Island this weekend.

Ronan McDonald, Rayven Sample, Josh Walters and Riley Auer finished in 3:24.90 to not only take fourth place overall, but break a 22-year-old Section VI record in the process at the New York State Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.

The group, which also qualified for next weekend’s New Balance Nationals at The Armory in New York City, was seventh after the preliminaries with a time of 3:25.56. Cervonte Thomas ran in place of McDonald during the preliminaries.

McDonald also took 10th individually in the boys 1,000 meters with a time of 2:36.01. West Seneca East’s Vincent Pagliaccio took third in the event and Lancaster’s Jared Rogalski was 13th.

Dunkirk/Silver Creek’s Jericha Petrella took 10th in the girls 600 meters with a time of 39.91 seconds.

Fredonia/Westfield’s Oliver Madariaga took 11th in the boys 300-meter dash with a time of 38.04 seconds while Depew’s Adam Scibetta was 24th in the same event.

Fredonia/Westfield’s Emily Brown finished 15th in the girls 1,500 meters with a time of 4:51.27. Lockport’s Sydney Nowicki was 23rd in the same event.

Jamestown’s Giovanna Calamunci finished 15th in the preliminaries of the girls 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.81 seconds.

Falconer/Cassadaga Valley/Maple Grove/Frewsburg/Randolph’s Devin Austin tied for 18th in the high jump at 5-6 while Williamsville North’s Carson Swierski tied for 15th at 6-0.

Fredonia/Westfield’s Hessen Bahgat did not reach the qualifying height in the pole vault, but Orchard Park’s Kegan Mancabelli took 15th at 13-6.

Dunkirk/Silver Creek’s Juliana Flick was a member of Section VI’s sixth-place team in the girls distance medley relay, which finished in 10:28.62.

Lancaster’s Natalie Surdej won the girls shot put (42-9.75) while Holland/East Aurora’s Serena Pagano was eighth and Lockport’s Skylar Pointer was 19th.

Surdej also took second in the girls weight throw (56-11.75) while West Seneca West’s Danielle Lambert was 11th and Sweet Home’s Clarie Koepnick was 23rd.

Orchard Park’s Leah Pasqualetti won the girls pole vault (13-0) while Sweet Home’s Eve Giancarlo reached 11-0 and Starpoint’s Alyssa Armitage reached 10-0.

Frontier’s Joshua Peron won the boys 600 meters (1:19.47) while Grand Island’s Sebastian Melendez was 12th.

Cheektowaga’s Jayden DuBard was second in the boys shot put (55-11.75) and weight throw (71-2.5). Depew’s Matthew Russo was 15th and Frontier’s Bradley Smith was 18th in the weight throw while Sweet Home’s Darrius Carter fouled out of the shot put.

Lockport’s Kahniya James took second in the girls 55-meter dash (6.95) and Frontier’s Gwyneth Goldowski was fourth in the girls 300-meter dash (39.91).

Lockport’s Sydney Nowicki was sixth in the girls 1,000 meters (2:55.53) and Amherst’s Mallory Grubb was 19th.

Frontier’s Brian Gleason was sixth in the boys 1,600 meters (4:19.84) and Amherst’s Jack Lenz was 16th.

Orchard Park’s Sara Puskar was eighth in the long jump (17-11.25), Amherst’s Morgan Halt was 12th and Sweet Home’s Amari Hall was 19th.

Sweet Home’s Angela Carter was ninth in the girls high jump (5-2) and Halt was 21st.

Orchard Park’s Nino Rivera was 10th in the boys long jump (21-3.25) and Cheektowaga’s CJ Krzanowicz tied for 13th.

Amari Hall was 12th in the girls triple jump (36-8.25) and her teammate Lanee Hall was 17th while Lancaster’s Ali Wojciechowski was 18th.

Holland/East Aurora’s Megan McLaughlin was 12th in the girls 3,000 meters (10:13.32) and teammate Karis Ertel was 19th.

Grand Island’s Natalie Carter was 13th in the girls 1,500-meter race walk (7:53.13) and West Seneca’s Alivia Murray was 15th.

Holland/East Aurora’s Brody Jones was 13th in the boys 3,200 meters (9:29.86) and Lancaster’s Zack Winnicki was 30th.

Amherst’s Riley Hodin was 17th in the triple jump (42-1.5) and Rivera was 22nd.

Niagara Falls’ Abraham Averhart was 18th in the boys 55-meter dash preliminaries (6.66), WNY Maritime’s Addison Copeland was 23rd and Depew’s Adam Scibetta was 25th.

Allegany-Limestone/Olean/Franklinville/Portville’s Liam Coulter was 16th in the boys 55-meter hurdle preliminaries (7.95) and Iroquois’ Kendall Mariacher was 20th.

Frontier took third in the boys 3,200-meter relay (8:00.30) and Section VI took fourth in the boys distance medley relay (8:57.62).

Hamburg was 11th and Lancaster was 13th in the preliminaries of the girls 800-meter relay; Holland/East Aurora was 12th in the girls 3,200-meter relay; and Clarence was 14th in the preliminaries for the girls 1,600-meter relay.

Niagara Falls was 20th in the boys 800-meter relay preliminaries (1:36.32).
