Fredonia Upends Chautauqua Lake In CCAA D1 West

FREDONIA — Fredonia entered Tuesday night’s action riding a three-game winning streak, recording victories over Allegany-Limestone, Olean and Cassadaga Valley.

On Tuesday night, Chautauqua Lake visited Fredonia, giving the Hillbillies another tough task.

They were ready.

On a night where senior point guard Kazlin Beers was banged up heading in and got into foul trouble very early, the Hillbillies took down the Thunderbirds, 56-44, in Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 1 West action.

Beers ended with 11 points despite foul trouble and Nagely Vazquez had 11 as well.

The Thunderbirds (10-6, 3-6) were led by Lily Woodis’ 21 points.

RICE LEADS

BLACK KNIGHTS

SILVER CREEK — Abby Rice had 20 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists as Silver Creek/Forestville beat Falconer, 53-38, in Division 1 East.

“Even though we were losing the first time through (the league schedule), I haven’t been upset overall after any game,” Silver Creek/Forestville head coach Tammy Rice said. “Maybe in moments I was, but we’ve been strong in the fourth of every game. The girls don’t give up and that’s great to have. … We’re starting to connect now.”

The Black Knights (10-6, 2-5) made an adjustment at halftime of the first contest with the Golden Falcons that paid dividends, as the team switched to man-to-man defense. While it was too late to overcome the Falconer advantage the first time the two teams met, Silver Creek/Forestville saw the final result reflect the improvement Tuesday night.

Falconer (13-4, 4-3) led 17-12 after the first quarter, but the Black Knights had a dominant defensive effort in the second quarter to build a four-point lead at the break.

Kiera Brennan added 9 points and six rebounds while Jade Bouvier and Jaylah Cossin had 8 points apiece for Silver Creek/Forestville.

Falconer was led by Ava Fenton with 13 points while Courtnee Peterson added 7 points.
