Jamestown CC Locks Up No. 1 Seed With POD Sweep

Jamestown Community College lost just one set en route to sweeping its own POD on Saturday at the Physical Education Complex.

The Jayhawks’ three victories also clinched the No. 1 seed for the NJCAA Region 3 Division III tournament, which will be held Saturday, Nov. 2 at Niagara County CC.

Jamestown CC opened with a 21-25, 25-21, 25-10, 27-25 victory over Jefferson CC as Karleigh Haines had 19 kills, 18 digs and two blocks. Jenna Caskey had two aces, 13 kills, 13 digs and two blocks; Maddy Russo had three aces, 43 assists and 13 digs; Alexys Marsh had an ace, nine kills, three digs and two blocks; and Cameryn Hawkins with an ace and 22 digs.

In their second match of the day, the Jayhawks swept Cayuga CC 25-8, 25-18, 25-11. Caskey led Jamestown CC with six aces, 12 kills and eight digs; Marsh had two aces, nine kills, three digs and two blocks; Haines had nine kills, four digs and two blocks; and Russo had two aces, 32 assists, two digs and a block.

The Jayhawks closed out their day with a 25-15, 25-11, 25-20 sweep of Onondaga CC as Haines had an ace, 17 kills, five digs and two blocks. Caskey had five aces, 11 kills, 15 digs and two blocks; Russo had 36 assists, four kills, five digs and two blocks; and Emma Wirsen had an ace and 11 digs.

Jamestown CC (22-4, 16-0) will look to finish off a perfect Region 3 regular season when it travels to Erie CC on Tuesday evening.

The Jayhawks will then play in the Western New York Athletic Conference tournament Saturday at Mercyhurst Northeast, beginning at 11 a.m.
