Teams are now being formed for the 2017 NCCYHA Street Hockey Tournament.

The one-day tournament will be held on Saturday, Aug. 19 at the Wright Park basketball courts, Warsaw Street in Dunkirk.

Each team will be comprised of five to seven players participating in 5-on-5 play; there are no goalies. Games will be played with smaller nets so goalies are not needed. Teams are only asked to provide sticks and helmets for players. Helmets may be borrowed, but number and sizes are limited. Athletic shoes, shin guards and gloves are also recommended.

The tournament will feature a round-robin schedule, culminating in a single-game elimination playoff. Teams will be placed in the following age groups: 6-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14 and 16-18. To ensure good competition and a manageable schedule a cap may be placed on the number of teams in each age group.

New this year will be an all age girl division. Any girl interested in playing should sign up as an individual, not as a team. Teams will be determined by the total number of girls registered and by age, equally as possible. Registration for the girls will be $15.

To register a team, mail the $125 registration fee to Northern Chautauqua County Youth Hockey Assn., P.O. Box 442, Fredonia, NY 14063. Players’ age as of Jan. 1, 2017 determines eligibility and proof of age may be required. Each team is guaranteed three games; team trophies will be given to the champions and runners-up of each division; prizes will be given to each member of the championship and runner-up teams; and every player registered before Aug. 5 will receive a free T-shirt.
