If there’s one cliche in the discussion over Chautauqua Lake and its weed problems, it’s the one repeated by Dr. Allison Hyrcik of the Jefferson Project during a recent presentation to the Chautauqua County Legislature. It has been a long time coming, but recently financing has been achieved so that public sewers around Chautauqua Lake can be completed. Right now work is underway to complete the sewer lines up the west side of the lake. It is expected that most if not all remaining septic systems in the sewer district between Stow and Prendergast point will be replaced by public sewers this year. George Borello wants you to spend hundreds of millions of dollars for electricity you don’t need. NRG shut down the Dunkirk plant in 2016 because there was no market for the expensive electricity it generated. The tiny village was named after its tranquil little lake. My dictionary defines placid as serene, gentle, calm.
