Everlasting Spring Of God Is Available To Fill Us Up At Any Moment
“Good God Almighty,
I hope you’ll find me
Praising your name no matter what comes
Cause I know where I’d be without your mercy,
So I keep praising your name at the top of my lungs.”
“Good God Almighty” by Crowder
This song lifts my spirits when I’m down. It keeps me motivated when the mornings are tough. It brings my spirit joy when I’m already joyful.
I thought it was just because of the music. I thought it was because my kiddos belt it out loudly in the car in voices so cute you wouldn’t believe it.
But really, when you stop to think about it, it’s because it is about what we were made for — to worship and magnify the Lord. Good God Almighty is with us, for us and in us — and we should praise him at the top of our lungs. (I get a great demonstration of that when my children sing with abandon in the car.)
As it says in Ecclesiastes 3:1, “For everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven.” I fully believe there is a song for every season as well — and I’m claiming this one for this season. I’ve had songs for many seasons over my life — some Christian and some not, but for this one, I am clinging to these words. I want to praise the Lord no matter what comes.
Sometimes, it can feel like God is slipping away from us. It feels like he’s distant, and we wonder why. But in these times, I have found that it is me who is distant. Any relationship is a two-way street — you aren’t going to get anywhere if you aren’t giving anything on your side. I feel like that’s been me lately. Just surviving, getting through the day – and my relationship with God comes second.
A good friend and mentor of mine once gave me a physical example of why I was feeling so empty. She used a vase and oatmeal containers, and showed me that I was pouring into everything else, but I’d left nothing for myself. But friends, the everlasting spring of God is available to fill us up at any moment — we just have to be at the well.
Dear Lord, over the next week, I hope you find me praising your name no matter what comes. I pray that you hear the words from all of our lips in prayer and in praise.
That you would unleash that mighty fountain into our hearts and spirits and fill the places that are empty. We cannot do it without you. Give us your peace, mercy and grace that we might fill others throughout our days.
In Jesus’ mighty name –
Amen.
