Common Sense is Back — Let’s Give It a Chance

To The Reader’s Forum:

As someone who’s proudly served the people of Jamestown and deeply cares about our city’s future, I’ve been reflecting on the tone of our politics lately — and frankly, I’m tired of the fear-mongering.

Every day, I see outrage being used as a political weapon — protests, vandalism, false claims, and a nonstop cycle of panic over policies that most of us voted for. President Trump is back in office, and Congressman Langworthy is doing exactly what we sent him to Washington to do: fight for Western New York, bring common sense back to government, and actually deliver.

But instead of honest debate, we’re seeing a playbook from the left that relies on fear, anxiety, and chaos. Tesla cars being vandalized, offices being defaced, protesters trying to scare seniors — it’s gotten completely out of hand. And it’s not coming from people looking for solutions. It’s coming from those who can’t accept that the majority of Americans — and most of this district — voted for a different path.

I’ve seen the claims that Congressman Langworthy is inaccessible. As someone who serves in local government and pays close attention, I can tell you that’s flat-out wrong. Nick is present. He’s plugged in. And even in D.C., his roots show. It’s clear he hasn’t forgotten where he came from — and it feels good knowing our voice is being heard in Washington.

Sure, things are moving fast — and they should. We went through four years of being ignored and dismissed. Now we have an administration and a congressman who are rolling up their sleeves and getting to work. Tariffs? Panic. DOGE rooting out waste? Panic. Every action met with exaggerated headlines and doomsday predictions — and yet, most of the people I talk to are relieved. Hopeful. Re-energized.

Maybe it’s time for the other side to take a breath and ask why.

What’s happening now isn’t scary — it’s what the people voted for. And instead of trying to scare voters with scripted outrage, maybe try something new: give it a chance. For once, lead with optimism, not fear.

Because here in Jamestown, we’re tired of the drama. We just want to move forward — and with President Trump and Congressman Langworthy, we finally are.
