Romaine L. Gustafson

She was the widow of David R. Gustafson whom she married May 12, 1951 and who died June 16, 1999.

Romaine was born in Jamestown June 22, 1931, a daughter of the late Fredrick and Lillian Olson Pfancook, and was a 1949 graduate of Jamestown High School. She had been employed as a cashier for Lerner Shops and later by Kay Jewelers.

Romaine was active in the Busti Historical Society and in charge of vendors at the annual Apple Festival for many years. She belonged to the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club, Busti-Lakewood Golden Agers, and volunteered at WCA Hospital for the Red Cross.

Romaine enjoyed traveling to the Outer Banks, visiting family and friends in Virginia, Florida and Arkansas, cooking & baking – especially her banana nut bread, and knitting slippers for her family and friends.

Surviving are three sons: Bruce R. (Jean) Gustafson of Arkwright, Brian S. (Tammy) Gustafson of Frewsburg, and Brent K. Gustafson of Erie; Seven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren; as well as family of her late companion, Winston Frankson who died in 2021, Christine Frankson, Mary Ann Johnson, and Gary Frankson.

She was also preceded in death by a son, Bradley (Brad) W. Gustafson in December 2024, a Daughter-in-law Martha (Marti) E. Gustafson in September 2024, a Grandson Ryan P. Gunnell in January 2021 and her sister, Phyllis Pfancook in 1943.

The funeral will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday, March 26th in the Lind Funeral Home. Friends will be received from 2 to 5 p.m. Thursday prior to the service. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Wiltsie Community Church or to the Chautauqua County Humane Society.
