Ruth A. Miles

Ruth A. Miles, 70, of Ellington passed away Wednesday (July 16, 2025) in her home with her family by her side after a courageous battle with cancer. Ruth was known by many to have a kind soul, patience of a saint, and a giving heart.

She lived her life with an inspiring amount of positivity and left a mark on everyone she met. She was a wife, a mother, a nana, a daughter, and a fighter. The resilience she had to survive was driven by her genuine love for the life she lived. She appreciated all the small beauties of life and prioritized her loved ones. Ruth’s soul was one of a kind.

She was born June 19, 1955 in New Berlin, NY, the daughter of Herman R. and Freda Huntington Adams.

Ruth was a graduate of New Berlin High School and was employed by the former Hallmark Card Store in the Lakewood Mall.

She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, watching flowers bloom in her garden, reading countless books, putting puzzles together with her cat, Paris, and going to the casino with friends and family.

Surviving is her husband Monte G. Miles whom she married February 14, 1979 in Mt. Upton, NY; two daughters: Tamara (Jason) Dustin of Kennedy, Melissa (Chris) Himes of Jamestown; five grandchildren: Jacob Thorp, Chloe (Nate) Priester, Alexander Thorp, Julian Himes, Hudson Himes; her father Herman R. Adams of New Berlin; a brother William Balcom and a sister Brenda Card.

She was preceded in death by her mother Freda Adams and two sisters: Beverly Johnston and Deborah Clum.

A celebration of life for Ruth will be held at a later date.
