Joanne M. Smith

She was born September 11, 1947, in Jamestown to Maurice E. and Jeannette Ericson Rashley.

Joanne graduated from Southwestern High School, then completing further education and becoming an LPN, both at Fenton Park Nursing Home and Private Duty Nursing.

Her soul-filled caregiving morphed into living her compassion from home when she married Duane on February 14, 1999. From then on, Duane and Joanne were an interwoven team; touchingly, they went everywhere and did everything as a unit. Textile-based artistry was not only a hobby, but a crafted skill, as Joanne was a phenomenal seamstress, knitter, and crocheter. She lovingly tended to her impressive garden each year, likewise, remaining devoted to Jamestown Community Chapel and her prominence in its women’s groups. Together, Duane and Joanne were inspiring ballroom dancers.

Joanne leaves behind an afghan of love, including her husband, Duane; sons, Robert “Bob” (Stacey) Siperek of Lakewood and Raymond C. “Charlie” (Theresa) Siperek of Georgia; a daughter, Christine “Tina” (Shannon) Scott of Missouri; stepdaughters, Amanda (Jon) McKane of Westfield and Aimee (Chad) Zimmerman of Warren; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a brother, Sam Gross.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Barb and Michael Aaron.

A memorial service for Joanne will be held at a later date and will be announced by Lind Funeral Home.
