Charlotte Jean Anderson (DeLay)

Charlotte Jean Anderson (DeLay), age 94 of Bemus Point, NY passed away peacefully on May 2, 2024.

She was an incredible woman of faith who delighted in running her household and caring for her family. Her life revolved around her family, especially her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was an avid gardener, loved cooking and baking, writing poetry and supporting her parish, Our Lady of Lourdes. She instilled in all her children a love of God, the outdoors, animals and gardening.

Charlotte was born at home on September 19, 1929, in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania to Francis and Tillie Lavelle DeLay. She was a brilliant student, graduating high school at sixteen years old. She went on to attend Edinboro State Teachers College (now Pennsylvania Western University at Edinboro) earning degrees in English and Biology in three years, graduating in 1949. While there, she met the love of her life, James Richard Anderson who had recently returned from his service in WW II. They married on December 27, 1948 and went on to have seven children.

Charlotte will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her surviving children: Frances Anderson (Larry Shrout), Margaret Johnson (Randy), Deborah Anderson (Peter Mudgett), James Anderson (Glenn Sproles), Elizabeth Davis (Keith), and Michael Anderson (Lydia). She is also survived by her wonderful grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Charlotte was predeceased by her spouse James Anderson, daughter, Christine Wight (Rick) and granddaughter Carrie Adelman, as well as her siblings Raymond DeLay, Harriet Kramer, and Frances Ebbert.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Bemus Point. The Lind Funeral Home in Jamestown is managing funeral arrangements.
