Bonita K. Mackie

Bonita K. Mackie, 76, of Kiantone, passed away on Sunday, March 3, 2024, at home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on May 20, 1947 in Jamestown, a daughter of the late Roger S. and Alverna E. Mainwaring Berg.

She was a 1965 graduate of Frewsburg Central School and earned an associates degree from Jamestown Business College.

Along with her husband Alan, they owned and operated Holmlund’s Wallpaper and Paint in Jamestown for many years. She was a talented designer and decorator having the touch to turn a house into a “home.” Many people would call and stop in seeking her advice on ideas. She also worked at The Relief Zone, which she truly enjoyed.

Bonita was a member of Siloam Fellowship, her faith was very important to her. She loved the outdoors, taking care of the farm mowing and the landscaping. She never missed any of her grandchildren’s events and loved being a wife, mother, and grandmother, and will be missed tremendously. Her and her husband Alan were high school sweethearts and after his passing in 2017, she still referred to herself as Mrs. Alan Mackie.

Bonita is survived by her children: A’Lynn (Michael) Conlan of Frewsburg, Amy Mackie and Ann (Joseph) Rubrecht, both of Kiantone, Susara (Deon) Van der Heever of Vancouver, Canada; five grandchildren: Quinn and Gracie Conlan, Bre’a Rubrecht, Martine and Gideon Van dee Heever; a sister Melanie (Gary) Ammons; a brother David (Carla) Berg; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her mother and step-father Alverna E. (Evar) Holmlund, her father Roger S. Berg, and her husband, Alan L. Mackie who passed away on October 30, 2017.

A celebration of life will be held at noon on Friday, March 8, 2024 at Trinity Church, Frewsburg. Pastor David Bush will officiate.

The family will receive friends from 11 am to noon (one hour prior) on Friday in the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Chautauqua Hospice & Palliative Care, 20 W Fairmount Avenue, Lakewood, NY 14750 (chpc.care/donate) or The Relief Zone, 5 Frew Run St., Frewsburg, NY 14738.
