10U TRAVEL BASEBALL

The Lakewood 10U Gladiators celebrated Father’s Day with an 18-2 victory over visiting Orchard Park White in Premier League play.

Starting pitcher Griffin Beaver (Randolph) worked two innings, striking out two and allowing no runs to earn the win. The Gladiators bullpen: Carter Skoglund (Lakewood), Theo Melquist (Frewsburg) and Easton Smith (Frewsburg), shut down Orchard Park the rest of the way, combining to strike out six while allowing just one hit and one earned run.

Leading the Lakewood offense was Beaver with four hits, including a triple and home run, and four runs scored; Melquist with four hits, including two doubles; Skoglund with three hits, including a triple, four runs scored and three RBIs; Declan Winchester (Lakewood) with two hits, including a triple; Conley Green (Ashville) with two hits and three runs scored; and Mason Brown (Lakewood) with two hits, including a double.

In addition, the defense played a solid game with zero errors behind the pitching staff.

The Gladiators swept a doubleheader Saturday from visiting NY Stingers White, taking Game 1 by a score of 17-1 and then the nightcap 23-6.

In the first game, Skoglund started and worked two innings striking out two while allowing a hit and an unearned run to pick up the victory. Smith pitched the final two innings striking out one, allowing one hit and no runs.

Leading the Gladiator offense, which scored in every inning, were Melquist, Luke Winchester (Bemus Point) and Declan Winchester, who each had two hits and three runs scored. Beaver ripped a triple and Green blasted a double for the winners.

In Game 2, Lakewood scored 11 runs over the first two innings and never looked back. Melquist started on the mound and went two innings striking out three while allowing no hits and an unearned run to pick up the victory. Green pitched the final two innings, striking out one and allowing no runs. The potent Gladiator offense was paced by Skoglund with three hits, including a double, and three runs scored; Luke Winchester with three hits and three runs scored; Declan Winchester with three hits; Ryan Butzer (Frewsburg) with three hits; Melquist with two hits and three runs scored; Smith with two hits, including a double; and Green, who ripped a triple.

With the three wins, Lakewood improved its record to 9-6 overall, including 9-0 in the league.

12U TRAVEL BASEBALL

The Diamond Dawgs won the Jeremy Gorcica Father’s Day Tournament in Eden this past weekend.

After going undefeated in pool play with a 12-1 win over the Eden Raiders, a 9-0 victory over the WNY Muckdogs and an 11-5 win over the Raiders, the Diamond Dawgs beat the Eden Raiders again, 12-0 in the semifinals, and the Raiders again, 3-0 in the final.

The championship game had lights-out pitching starting with Jayce Stewart for one inning, Noah Nelson for three innings and Trenton Smith for the last two innings. Brody Beichner led the team in hitting with Brayden Beichner driving in a run as well.

This team also won a Mother’s Day tournament earlier this year.

13U TRAVEL BASEBALL

FREWSBURG — Collin Bragg struck out seven and walked one while scattering eight hits through six innings as the Diamond Dawgs beat the Grand Island Vikings 9-1 in the Premier League on Saturday.

The Diamond Dawgs took a 2-0 lead in the first inning before scoring five times in the fourth inning. Rylan Cambria led off with a single, went to second on a groundout and scored on Greyson Whitfield’s RBI single. Maxx Davis followed with a double before Curtis Spielman’s two-run single to right-center field. Caden Lacki followed with a single, Spielman scored on a wild pitch and Lacki scored on Lukas Youngberg’s RBI groundout to make it 7-0.

Cambria, Davis and Spielman each finished with a pair of hits for the Diamond Dawgs. Jaxson Swanson got the final three outs on the mound.

14U TRAVEL BASEBALL

The Lakewood Gladiators defeated South Buffalo 23-11, defeated WNY Prospects 3-2, defeated Twin Tiers 15-9 and lost to North Buffalo 9-7 in recent games.

In the win versus South Buffalo, Alexander Olson went 4 for 4 with a double and four RBIs; Landon Ko had three singles and six RBIs; Owen Walburg had three singles and four RBIs; Blake Hill had two singles and an RBI; Austin Evans had a single and three RBIs; Jerry Gassman had a single and two RBIs; and Asher Stanton added a single and an RBI. Andrew Cama and Connor Devlieger were on the mound in the win and had three strikeouts apiece.

In the win versus the WNY Prospects, Walburg had a triple and an RBI; Connor Devlieger and Collin Devlieger each had a double and an RBI; Evans and Hill each had two singles; and Olson added a single. Evans and Hill pitched in the win combining for seven strikeouts.

In the win versus Twin Tiers, Gassman had a triple and two RBIs; Walburg had a double, a single and an RBI; Mason Hastings had a double and two RBIs; Olson and Ko each added a single and two RBIs; and Collin Devlieger had a single. Cama, Walburg, Hill and Connor Devlieger pitched in the win combining for eight strikeouts.

In the loss to North Buffalo, Walburg had a double; Evans had an RBI single; Cama and Hill each had a single; Olson added two RBIs; and Ko had an RBI. Evans, Walburg and Cama pitched 10 strikeouts in the loss.

JAMESTOWN BABE RUTH LEAGUE

MAJORS DIVISION

True Value punched its ticket to the semifinals in dramatic fashion, with a thrilling 13-12 victory over Ballgame Heroes.

Trailing by three runs in the bottom of the final inning, True Value mounted one last rally before Landon Conti delivered the game-winning moment. With two runners on base, Conti crushed a ball into the outfield and raced around the bases for a walk-off three-run inside-the-park home run. Conti would also add two singles and produce six strikeouts while on the mound. Cam Smith and Jordy Berg would add singles to the cause.

For Ballgame Hero’s Joey Paterniti and Easton Nary had two hits apiece.
