Merrilyn C. Buccola

Merrilyn C. Buccola, 91, of The Magnolia Home, formerly of North Meadow Lane, Frewsburg, passed away Friday (Sept. 30, 2022) in Heritage Village Rehab and Skilled Nursing.

A lifelong area resident, Merrilyn was born Sept. 3, 1931, in Jamestown, the daughter of the late David C. and Florence Kay Anderson.

Merrilyn was a graduate of Randolph High School and Alfred State College. Before retirement, Merrilyn worked as a lab technician at the former Jamestown General Hospital.

She was a Samuel Derby American Legion Auxiliary member and enjoyed golfing and traveling with her late husband, Lory Buccola. Merrilyn played in a golf league with her late sister, Norma Vine, for many years. She enjoyed reading, knitting, and watching football (Merrilyn was an avid Buffalo Bills fan). Resolved to keep her mind and body sharp, she walked daily and balanced her checkbook without a computer or calculator. She remained in her home until recently with the help of family, especially Lory and Amy Buccola.

Merrilyn enjoyed spending time with her family and was the person that kept everyone in touch. She became the unofficial Anderson Family historian for family reunions, birthdays, and special occasions. She is survived by her step-sons: Lory (Amy) Buccola, Joseph (Stephanie) Buccola; nieces: Kim Kahanic, and Lisa (Tom) Smith; and nephew, Craig (Priscilla) Anderson. Her great-nieces and great-nephews have fond memories of “Aunty M”, who enjoyed playing card games or a round of croquet outside with them. They are: Carrianne (Andy) Carroll, Christopher (Kat) Kahanic, Nicholas Kahanic (Ashley Muscarella), Derek Anderson, Wyatt (Jennifer) Anderson, Courtney (Evan) Hickernell, Miranda (Dylan) Commean. Her step-grandchildren who survive her: Ashley Buccola, Jason (Amy) Buccola, Chad (Bayley) Buccola, Joey Buccola, and Michelle Buccola.

She was preceded in death her husband, Lory Buccola, who passed away on Aug. 23, 2001, two brothers: Wendell Anderson and David Kay Anderson; and sister, Norma Vine.

The funeral will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday (Oct. 12, 2022) in the Falconer Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Friends will be received by the family one hour before the funeral service Wednesday in the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, Merrilyn’s family requests donations be made to the Frewsburg Public Library or Falconer Public Library. Visit www.falconerfuneralhome.net to send a message of condolence.
