John Sayre Rogers, 100, of Greenhurst, N.Y. and formerly of Brookdale of Lakewood, N.Y. and Troy, OH, passed away on May 1, 2022 surrounded by his loving family.
John was born on June 5, 1921 in Troy, OH, the son of the late Charles P. and Mary E. Kinder Rogers.
John graduated from Lostcreek High School in 1939 and Ohio University (BS in Physical Education) in 1943 whereupon he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps to serve in World War II. After serving in the Marines, he attended graduate school at Wittenberg University obtaining a master’s degree in guidance counseling in 1963.
John was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Troy, OH. He was an avid golfer and played hundreds of rounds of golf at Miami Shores Golf Course in Troy, OH.
John is survived by his two children: Doug (Dianne) Rogers of Okatie, S.C. and Margaret “Peggy” (Andrew) Malinoski of Bemus Point, N.Y.; 6 grandchildren and 8 great – grandchildren: Megan (Kevin) Sixbey of Jamestown, N.Y. and their son: Ben, Sarah (Grant) Umberger of Bemus Point, N.Y. and their sons: Parker and Finn, Anna (Thomas) Stephens of Cold Spring, N.Y. and their children: Charlie, Freddie and Sal, Emma Malinoski and her wife, Sara Janiszeski of Hilton Head, S.C., Christopher (Kristine) Snyder of Oslo, Norway and their children: Flippa and Hedvig, Matthew Snyder and his husband, Scott Matts of Wilmington, DE; his sister: Isabelle Chesnut of Avon Lake, OH.
In addition to his parents, John is preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn Houser Rogers whom he married on June 6, 1943 and who died on November 11, 2013.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in Troy, OH. Internment will take place in Riverside Cemetery, Troy, OH.
