At 7:34 a.m. Saturday, the Falconer Fire Department was dispatched to 337 W. Main St., following reports of smoke in the building. Upon the arrival of Car 402, heavy fire was observed coming from a first-floor apartment. Firefighters immediately performed a primary search, clearing the apartment adjacent to the fire unit. Fire crews arrived shortly after and made entry into the building to clear the remaining units. At the time of the incident, it is believed that eight of the building’s 12 apartments were vacant, and the fire-involved unit was occupied, however the tenant and her daughter were not home at the time of the fire. Firefighters said the family was being assisted by the Red Cross.
The fire was brought under control within 20 minutes, according to firefighters. Significant fire damage was limited to the original apartment of origin. There were no injuries to the building’s occupants or emergency responders.
The Chautauqua County Fire Investigation Team responded to the scene to determine the origin and cause. While the official investigation is ongoing, initial findings suggest the fire may have been caused by an electrical issue in the bedroom.
Also responding to the scene were the Kiantone Fire Department, Kennedy Fire Department, Gerry Fire Department, Chautauqua County EMS, Chautauqua County battalion coordinators, Chautauqua County Fire Police Team and the Ellicott Police Department.
