EAST RANDOLPH — Edith F. Martin, 86, of Main Street, East Randolph, formerly of Ellington, Busti and Warren, passed peacefully away Tuesday (Nov. 16, 2021) at home after a brief illness and her daughter Barb at her side.

Mrs. Martin was born Sept. 11, 1935, in Buffalo, the daughter of the late George Quincy and Edith Bertha (Durand) Pettitt.

Edith was a graduate South Park High School in Buffalo, N.Y., and Ellicottville B.O.C.E.S, where she received her licensed practical nursing degree. Edith retired in 1995 from nursing from the Warren State Hospital in Warren, Pa., she had previously worked as a nurse at Warren General Hospital and the former Manor Oak Nursing Home in Jamestown and VanSlyke Nursing Home in Randolph.

She was a former member of the Randolph Grace Episcopal Church and the former Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge in East Randolph. An avid sports fan, she was a fan of the Buffalo Bills, Sabres and New York Yankees. She also liked playing golf and had a hole in one at South Hills in Busti. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, traveling, knitting, crocheting, listening to country music and reading.

She is survived by two daughters: Barbara Gurzinski and husband, Stash of East Randolph, and Sandra Ramsdell and husband Buddy of Gowanda; two sons: Barry M. Hill and wife, Alice of Ellington, and and James P. Hill of Jamestown, 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and siblings: James Pettitt of New Port Richie, Fla., and Judith Stanislawski of Tucson, Ariz.

Edith was preceded by her husband, Robert A. Martin, whom she married on Sept. 9, 1989, in Ellery Center, N.Y., and who pre-ceded her on Aug. 24, 2015; and two children: Patricia Bonovitch in 1991 and Garry “Hillski” Hill in 2011; and a brother , William Pettitt.

A celebration of Edith’s life will be held from 2-4 p.m., Saturday (Dec. 4, 2021) at the Randolph Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6533, corner of Routes 394 and 242.
