Matthew O. Isaacson

Matthew O. Isaacson, 66, of Lloyd Avenue in Bemus Point, died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2021, in his home.

He was born Oct. 22, 1954, in Jamestown, a son of the late Oke M. and Lois Shepardson Isaacson.

A graduate of Maple Grove High School, he earned his bachelor’s degree in Education from SUNY Brockport.

Mr. Isaacson was a beloved 6th grade elementary school teacher in Bemus Point for 33 years, retiring in 2010. Throughout the years, he was also a waiter and Ma’tre D’ at the Hare ‘n Hounds Inn, Guppy’s Restaurant, and the SeeZurh House.

Matt was active in local theater, both acting and directing, and was an avid gardener possessing a true green thumb. His annual plantings of multicolored zinnias were a welcome event each summer, marveled by his neighbors. Matt also loved travelling, both to Europe, Greece, and Ireland as well as throughout the United States. He was a longtime volunteer at the Bemus Point Library in addition to being an ambulance driver for the Bemus Point Fire Department.

Surviving is his brother, Jeffrey W. Isaacson of Norwalk, Conn.; and cousins: Stephanie Stowell Kolb of Ohio, and Susanna Stowell Rumberger of Colorado.

A memorial service will be held at noon on Wednesday, Oct. 13, in St. Timothy Lutheran Church. Rev. Ivy Gauvin and Deacon Daniel Tyler will officiate. Inurnment will be in Bemus Point Cemetery.

Friends will be received for one hour prior to the service, from 11 a.m. until noon Wednesday in the church.
