LAKEWOOD — Brody Ellis threw six innings of three-hit ball, allowing two unearned runs while striking out six as No. 5 Southwestern beat No. 12 Eden 11-2 in a Section VI Class B prequarterfinal baseball game Saturday at Packard Field.

Jameson Walsh tripled, drove in a run and scored three runs; Chase Kartesz was 2 for 4 with a double, three RBIs and two runs scored; and Judd Harris was 3 for 3 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored for the Trojans, who took a 9-2 lead with seven runs in the third and fourth innings combined.

Walsh got the final three outs on four strikeouts after a dropped third strike for Southwestern, which will travel to No. 4 Royalton-Hartland for a 5 p.m. quarterfinal today. The Rams beat Allegany-Limestone 11-1 in another quarterfinal Saturday.

CLASS A2

DUNKIRK COASTS INTO QUARTERS

GOWANDA — No. 7 Dunkirk scored in every inning en route to a 10-0 six-inning victory over No. 10 Albion in a Section VI Class A2 prequarterfinal baseball game Saturday.

The Marauders took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when Paul Trippy III led off with a double, went to third on a dropped third strike and scored on Josh Lemanski’s sacrifice fly.

In the second, Dylan Bankoski doubled, went to third on a Donnie Jackson bunt and scored on an error.

Dunkirk broke the game open with a four-run third inning. Zachary Zentz led off with a double and Lemanski was hit by a pitch before a double steal. Greg Orcutt then hit into an RBI fielder’s choice and Lemanski scored on an error to make it 4-0 ahead of Bankoski’s RBI double to left field. Bankoski later scored when Jonathan Ganey reached on a two-out error.

The Marauders added two runs in the fourth. Lemanski walked to open the frame and Orcutt reached on an error before Anthony Piede also reached on an error plating Lemanski. Jackson later added an RBI sacrifice bunt.

Dunkirk added a run in the fifth. Gabe Valentine and Trippy singled to open the inning ahead of Davi Alvalle’s RBI fielder’s choice.

The game-ending run came in the bottom of the sixth. Jackson singled before courtesy-runner Daniel Hoth eventually scored the 10th run on an RBI single by Trippy.

Bankoski finished 2 for 4 with a pair of doubles, two runs scored and an RBI; Trippy had three hits, including a double; Jackson had a pair of hits; and Zentz had a double.

Zentz threw four innings of three-hit ball with five strikeouts before Shaffer got the final six outs.

Dunkirk will travel to No. 2 Iroquois for a 5 p.m. quarterfinal Tuesday.

CLASS B

BLACK KNIGHTS ELIMINATED

HAMBURG — Jackson Catanzaro singled and drove in three runs, while Patrick Bodecker added two hits, including a double, as No. 6 East Aurora topped No. 11 Silver Creek/Forestville 6-4 in a Section VI Class B prequarterfinal Saturday.

The Black Knights had runners on second and third after scoring two runs in the top of the seventh inning, but a strikeout ended the game.

Will Duliba went 3 for 4, Alex Galfo had a pair of doubles and John Steinwachs was 2 for 4 in defeat.

East Aurora will travel to No. 3 Portville for a 5 p.m. quarterfinal Monday.

ROSS MASTERFUL IN DEFEAT

AKRON — Jaxson Ross threw a two-hitter with 12 strikeouts, but No. 9 Salamanca lost to No. 8 Akron 2-0 in a Section VI Class B prequarterfinal Saturday.

Jake Herrick and Kruz Coustenis had the only hits for the Warriors.

The Tigers will visit No. 1 Medina for a 5 p.m. quarterfinal today.

CLASS C

CORNELL, McCALL SILENCE TIMBERWOLVES

BEMUS POINT — Jake Reinhardt and Drew Oste had RBI singles, while Nate Cornell and Kolden McCall combined on a three-hit shutout as No. 6 Maple Grove beat No. 11 Cattaraugus-Little Valley 4-0 in a Section VI Class C prequarterfinal Saturday.

Camden Lombardo and Sean Verbosky added singles, while McCall had a double for the Red Dragons, who will travel to Clymer to take on No. 3 Clymer/Sherman/Panama in a 5 p.m. Tuesday quarterfinal.

Cornell walked two and struck out four in the first four innings before McCall struck out eight in the final three innings.

EAGLES EDGE WESTFIELD

WESTFIELD — Cayden Blackman drove in Nate Henry with the go-ahead run in the bottom of the fifth inning as No. 8 Chautauqua Lake beat No. 9 Westfield 2-1 in a Section VI Class C prequarterfinal Saturday.

Devin Hewes threw a complete-game five-hitter with 10 strikeouts and two walks for the Eagles. The run he allowed was unearned.

Chautauqua Lake, which was playing on the road despite being the higher seed due to poor field conditions in Mayville, went ahead 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning. Hewes was hit by a pitch with one out and scored on an RBI double by Henry.

Westfield tied the game in the top of the third inning. Tristen Phillips reached on an error with two outs and Danny Bratton singled before Aaron Fuller hit an RBI double to right field. The Wolverines attempted to take the lead on the play, but a perfect relay from Chautauqua Lake’s Greyson Wellman to Connor Nowicki to Nolan Olson cut down Bratton at home plate.

In the Eagles’ fifth, Henry walked and stole second before moving to third on an Olson flyout to right field. Blackman then picked up the go-ahead RBI.

Westfield threatened in the top of the sixth as Fuller led off with a single, but Clayton Smith caught a line drive at third base and doubled off Fuller to clear the bases. After a walk, Hewes picked up his ninth strikeout of the day to end the inning.

In the seventh, a strikeout and two groundouts ended the game.

Hewes, a sophomore, picked up his 100th career strikeout in the game.

Chris Vacanti threw 4 2/3 innings and struck out five while allowing two hits for the Wolverines. Trent Ramm got the final four outs, including a pair of strikeouts.

The Eagles will visit No. 1 Frewsburg for a 5 p.m. quarterfinal Tuesday.

CLASS AAA

RED & GREEN’S SEASON ENDS

LANCASTER — No. 3 Jamestown saw its season come to an end with a 13-3 loss to No. 2 Lancaster in a Section VI Class AAA semifinal.

Caleb Piazza and Adam Kubera each had two hits, including an RBI single, for Jamestown.

Eric Castren had four hits, three RBIs and two runs scored, while Mike Schaefer hit a home run for the Legends, who will take on No. 1 Niagara Falls in a best-of-three series this week for the title.
