Barry E. Leyman

Barry E. Leyman 74, of Kennedy passed away unexpectedly Saturday (June 19, 2021) in UPMC Hamot, Erie, Pa.

He was born Nov. 5, 1946, in the Jamestown, N.Y., the son of the late Robert F. and Rosamond J. Finch Leyman.

Barry was a graduate of Falconer High School class of 65, and attended SUNY Alfred and Kent State University. He was a member of a fraternity at Alfred State College. Prior to retirement he was employed by Truck-Lite in Falconer as an international salesman for 39 years.

At a young age, Barry established good work ethics and responsibilities. In his younger years, he was a paperboy and worked at Cross’s Red & White Grocery Store. In his 20s, he managed the Falconer Entry County League Baseball Team, and coached Little League and Babe Ruth. Barry loved baseball and football and was a Buffalo Bills Season Ticket holder.

In the 1980s, he was town of Poland supervisor, town councilman, and on the planning board. He was a proud lifelong member of the Kennedy Fire Department. He was also a member of Spec 88 Stock Club, and member of Allen Park Men’s Club. He was the quintessential “car guy” and a sports car, NASCAR, and Formula One enthusiast. Barry kept his cars that he owned in showroom condition.

Barry especially enjoyed traveling for business and pleasure which led him all over the world especially enjoyed England and Australia. He also enjoyed golfing on the Truck-Lite Golf League. Barry made friends everywhere he went and had a bucket list with his good friend, Buddy. Their goal was to make every NASCAR race track in the country, which he missed the record by two races. He also had breakfast every Sunday with two dear friends: Jim and Ed. Some of his dearest friends were the guys from Buffalo who have the South Valley Hunting Camp.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley E. Carlson Leyman of Kennedy ,whom he married June 25, 1994, in Jamestown; two step sons; James (Afton) Godwin of Jamestown, and Martin (Kristina) Godwin of Frewsburg; seven grandchildren: Kieran, Riley, Declan, Madison, Brayden, Logan, Evelyn; two sisters: Nancy (Thomas) Phillips of Dunkirk, Barbara (Rick) Czerniak of Kennedy; nephews: Thomas (Allison) Phillips of Pittsford, N.Y.; niece, Jamie Phillips of Buffalo, N.Y., Jason (Tina) Lindahl of the town of Ellicott, Chad (Alecia) Lindahl of Falconer; great-nieces and nephews: Aniston and Everett Phillips of Pittsford, N.Y., Griffin (Mari) Moore of New York City, Jordan Moore (Anna Kushnir) of Westchester, N.Y., Garrett and Hailey Lindahl of Falconer, N.Y.; and several cousins.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday in the Falconer Funeral Home. Pastor Jennifer Delahoy will officiate. Burial will be private in Kennedy Riverside Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
