John C. Butler

CATTARAUGUS — John C. Butler, 74, of Cattaraugus passed away Sunday, April 18, 2021 at Buffalo General Hospital. He was born Dec. 3, 1946, the son of the late Calvin Butler and Elaine Thalheimer-Thompson of Allegany, who survives. On March 9, 1969 he married the former Judy Schlegel, who survives.

A life-long resident of Cattaraugus County, John attended ECC, earning his associates degree and later worked as an engineer at many manufacturing companies in the region. John faithfully served in ministry with the New Apostolic Church for many years and was active at the former New Apostolic Church in Cattaraugus. He also enjoyed working on geneology, calligraphy, and loved music of many kinds. Together with his family, there were many fun vacations where he would often encounter someone he knew along the way.

Besides his loving wife of 52 years, John is survived by a son, John (Rebecca) Butler of Trinity, Fla., and two daughters; Gayle (Steven) Patterson of Cattaraugus, and Lynn (Kris) Kirkpatrick of Belton, Texas. Also surviving is a brother-in-law, Jim (Barbara) Schlegel of Cleveland, Ohio; as well as eight grandchildren; Allison (Kenny), Andrea, Aryn, Adam, Thomas, Anika, Morgan,and Kayla,; as well as five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his father, John is predeceased by an infant brother, Joseph Butler; and five infant grandchildren.

Friends may call on Friday, April 23, 2021 from 5-8 p.m. at Mentley Funeral Home Inc., 411 Rock City St. in Little Valley.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, masks will be required and limited occupancy observed.
