Mildred J. Roach

Mildred J. Roach, 90, of 715 Falconer St., Jamestown, N.Y., formerly of Dearing Avenue, passed away at 11:11 a.m. Thursday, April 2, 2020, in the Lutheran Home and Rehabilitation Center.

A lifelong area resident, she was born July 29, 1929 in Jamestown, N.Y., a daughter of the late John Arthur and Anna Meyer Johnson.

Millie was a 1947 graduate of Falconer High School.

In earlier years, she had worked at the former Jamestown Telephone Company and later worked for the family business, Falconer Printing and Design for 23 years before her retirement.

She was a longtime active member of the First Covenant Church, where she sang in the choir for many years, was involved in the Covenant Women Ministries and was a member of several ladies circles at First Covenant. She loved to sew and knit and over the years she knit 100s of hats for our troops overseas and was involved in the Linus Project which made hand quilted items for children. She was an active volunteer for the American Red Cross, the former WCA Hospital, Retired Senior Volunteer Program and the Lutheran Social Services gift shop.

Surviving are her son, Douglas (Maryanne) Roach of Colorado Springs, Colo.; five grandchildren: Matthew, Daniel, Amy Roach, all of Colorado Springs, Sara Otto of Barcelona, Spain and Lisa Otto Buman of Clarence, N.Y.; four great-grandchildren, Alexander Buman of Clarence, N.Y., Loukas, Kolton, and Lilianna Roach, all of Colorado Springs, Colo.; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Robert W. Roach, whom she married Oct, 23, 1954, and who died June 21, 2019; and her daughter, Janice Roach Otto, who died Dec. 17, 1987; and her brother, William Johnson.

Due to the restrictions on traveling and public gatherings caused by the coronavirus outbreak, a memorial service will be held in the summer of 2020 when family and friends can be present.
