John D. Gatgen

John D. Gatgen, 82, of 18 Mattison St., Frewsburg, passed away Saturday, (Jan. 18, 2020) at Heritage Green Rehab and Skilled Nursing.

He was born May 11, 1937, in Batavia, N.Y., the son of Edward and Lillian Sierk Gatgen.

John was a graduate of Attica Central School.

He was a U.S. Army veteran serving from 1956- 62.

Before retiring in 1994, he had been employed as a sales representative for Sperry Hutchinson S&H Green Stamps and ending his career at Commerce Clearing House.

He had assisted at Peterson Funeral Home in Frewsburg for many years.

John was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, and a 50 year member of the Frewsburg Lions Club.

He enjoyed traveling, riding his motocycle, and attending his grandchildren’s events especially Jamestown Skating Club shows and JHS Marching Band events, competitions, and musical concerts.

John is survived by his wife, Audrey Smith Gatgen, whom he married in 1957, in Attica, N.Y.; two daughters: Renee (Frank) Cobb and Narda Gatgen (husband, Chris Oberg) of Jamestown; and two grandchildren: Taylor Cobb and Mitchel Smigel.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Paul Gatgen.

A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the Zion Lutheran Church, Frewsburg. The Rev. Phil Roushey, pastor, will officiate.

The family will receive friends from 3-5 p.m. Saturday in the Peterson Funeral Home, Frewsburg.

Memorials may be made to the Frewsburg Fire Compaany or St. Judes Children’s Hospital or Frewsburg Lions Club.
