Lois Ann West Hull

MAYVILLE — Lois Ann West Hull, 87, of Cocoa Beach, Fla. and Mayville, died Friday, Oct. 4, 2019, at the home of her daughter in Mayville, with family at her side.

She was born April 30, 1932, in Oil City, Pa., the daughter of the late William G. and Della L. Redmond West.

Lois came to Chautauqua County in 1945 after her parents took over the family restaurant business in Bemus Point, N.Y. She had many fond memories of working at West’s Restaurant until it sold in 1961. Lois met, Jerold L. Hull, the love of her life, at Midway Park Roller Rink and they later married Jan. 6, 1951, at the Bemus Point United Methodist Church. They enjoyed over 68 years of marriage together.

Lois graduated from Bemus Point High School and attended SUNY Fredonia. She had worked as a teacher’s aide at the former Mayville Central School. After raising her family, she worked as a clerk for the Chautauqua County Board of Elections retiring in 1994. She was a life member of the Mayville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8647 Auxiliary, the Chautauqua County Republican Committee, the Monday Night Ladies Golf League at Chautauqua Point, and the Red Hat Ladies in Cocoa Beach. Lois enjoyed golfing, water aerobics, dancing, cooking, snowmobiling, traveling, and time with family.

She is survived by her loving husband, Jerold L. “Corky” Hull; four children; Jerold W. (Janet) Hull of Erie, Pa., Jordan W. (Betty) Hull of Mayville, N.Y., Julie W. Hull of Hamburg, N.Y., and Jodell W. Laumer of Mayville, N.Y.; four grandchildren; Thomas J. Douglas, Jerold L. Hull, Jillian J. Douglas, Nicole (Doug) Hull; one great-grandson, Thomas J. Douglas Jr.; and several nieces and nephews.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents; a son, James W. Hull; three brothers: Eugene E. West, Robert R. West and James L. West; and one sister, Florence West.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m., on Friday, Oct. 11, 2019, at the Freay Funeral Home in Mayville (139 South Erie St). The Rev. David Herr will officiate. Burial will be in the Magnolia Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m., on Thursday, Oct. 10, in the funeral home.
