Paul G. Benson

Paul G. Benson, 85, of the Randolph Manor, formerly of Jamestown, passed away at 11:45 p.m., Friday (May 10, 2019) at Olean General Hospital.

He was born Aug. 31, 1933, in Jamestown, N.Y., the son Walter D. Benson and Martha E. Danielson Benson.

Paul was a 1952 graduate of Jamestown High School and was a veteran of the Korean War era, serving his country proudly with the U.S. Army from April 27, 1953 until being honorably discharged on July 11, 1956.

He retired in 1993 from SKF in Falconer after 38 years of service as a production control supervisor. Paul started with TRW in 1965 in Jamestown and later, as it transitioned into Marlin Rockwell, he moved on to the Jamestown location, from where he retired.

Paul was a long standing member of Cardinal Hills Golf Course in Randolph, where he had played in both the Monday morning and evening leagues and on the Wednesday member’s league. He was a member of the Randolph American Legion Post 181 and the Randolph Veterans of Wars Post 6533.

He is survived by his niece, Emily Jean Koss, whom he loved and adored. In his passing, Paul wanted others to know that he will forever be grateful for her loving care. He was also very thankful to David and Steve Mauro and their staff at the Randolph Manor for their kindness shown to him over the past many years.

Paul was preceded by his father, Walter in 1981 and his mother, Martha in 2006; and his only sibling, brother, Arthur L. “Art” Benson on Dec. 4, 2012.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Monday (May 20, 2019) in the VanRensselaer& Son Funeral Home, 14 Church St., Randolph, where relatives and friends will be received one hour prior.The Rev W. Mike Trenchard will officiate. Full military honors will be presented by the Randolph American Legion Post 181. Burial will follow in the Sunset Hill Cemetery, Jamestown.
