Peter H. Tarbrake

Peter H. Tarbrake, 65, of Cassadaga, died suddenly Saturday, Nov. 10, 2018, the result of an automobile accident.

He was born July 9, 1953, in Jamestown, a son of the late John J. and Nellie Haehn Tarbrake.

Following high school, Pete earned his bachelor’s degree at Elmira College and received his master’s degree in social work from the University of Buffalo. He retired from the Niagara County Department of Social Services and following retirement, worked as a mental health counselor for UPMC Chautauqua in Dunkirk, N.Y.

Pete Tarbrake was the kindest man anyone could have the privilege of knowing. He was an intellectual and a dreamer, while also being down to earth. His dedication to caring for others, whether they were a close friend or a total stranger, was second to none. He made everyone who met him feel like a best friend or family member. This carried over into his 40-year career as a social worker, which was exceptionally accomplished. The accomplishments that mattered most to him, however, were the personal ones. He supported family and friends, shared his insightful reflections on life, and pursued his passions: fishing, motorcycles and cars. His fondness for his four legged friends included his faithful pets: Curtis, Buddy and his current companion, Molly, who will be lost without her Daddy.

Pete is survived by two children, his pride and joy, Kendra (Leo) and Andrew, as well as their mother, Mary; and his grandchildren, Madeline, Penelope and Alexander. Also surviving is his brother, Mark (Chris) Tarbrake and his three beautiful nieces: Morgan, Kelsey and Hannah.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, J. William Tarbrake, who died July 19, 2017.

Pete left his stamp on this earth and those lucky enough to know him will keep him in their hearts forever.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. James D. Bailey will officiate. Visitation will not be observed.

Memorials may be made to the Chautauqua County Humane Society, 2825 Strunk Road, Jamestown, NY 14701.
