Cecil M. Wright

Cecil M. Wright, 93, formerly of 75 Metcalf Ave., Jamestown, passed away at 7:16 a.m., Friday, Nov. 16, 2018, in Heritage Park Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility.

A lifelong area resident, he was born Dec. 4, 1924, in the town of Mina, a son of the late Martin L. and Luella Wright Wright.

Cecil was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving from Nov. 29, 1945, to July 19, 1947, during World War II. He served in the 1st Division, 26th Infantry, A-Company and was a guard at Nuremburg during the war crime trials.

Before his retirement, he was a press operator for the former Proto Tool Company, where he worked for 30 years.

He was active in the village of Celoron, where he served as mayor of Celoron from 1973-75 and also was a trustee and a member of the planning board and the zoning board. He and his late wife Joyce loved to dance and were members of the Chautauqua Squares dance group. He enjoyed working in his wood shop, gardening and going to yard sales. He was also an avid collector of eagles.

Surviving are two sons: Maurice M. (Bonnie) Wright and Kevin D. (Laurie Bennink) Wright, both of Jamestown, four grandchildren: Pamela (Thomas) Warner of Ashville, N.Y., Erin Johnson of Celoron, N.Y., Joshua Tilyou of Jamestown, and Michael Tilyou of Ripley, N.Y.; and six great- grandchildren: Connor and Mikayla Johnson, Brooke and Patrick Warner, Elijah Schrantz and Ariana Tilyou.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, the former Joyce I. Panter Wright, whom he married April 3, 1948, and who died May 10, 2010; a daughter, Terry E. Wright who died in 2016; a brother, the Rev. Harry B. Wright, who died in 2009; and a sister, Norma Gates Rogers, who died in 1972.

The funeral will be held at 1:30 pm Monday, Nov. 19, 2018, in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Gerald A. Haglund, chaplain of Heritage Park will officiate. Burial will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery.

Friends will be received for one hour prior to the service on Monday in the funeral home.
