Kenneth David Shellhouse

On April 10, 2018 Kenneth David Shellhouse, 84, of Spring Creek, was granted his wish. He was finally reunited with his wife, Patricia Lee Durlin Shellhouse, who preceded in him in death on Jan. 2, 2002, after 46 years of marriage. We are most positive that she met him with open arms and a beautiful smile.

Ken was born the oldest of six children to the late Kenneth E. and Thelma (Gray) Shellhouse on Dec. 10, 1933, at the family farmhouse in Pittsfield, Pa.

Ken is preceded in death by sisters: Louise (Randy) Smith and Kathy Shellhouse; as well as a brother, Donald Shellhouse.

Surviving are a sister Peg (Al) Leichtenberger of Bear Lake; and a brother, Ronal Shellhouse of Natalia, Texas.

Ken and his wife were blessed with four children: Diane (Ken) Hanson, Debbie (Bill) Nelson, John (Courtney) Shellhouse and Al Shellhouse, all of Spring Creek; 12 grandchildren: Kayla (Travis) Dalrymple, Amanda (Ryan) Jesperson, Amber (fiance Anthony Otto) Jordan and Dante’ Cooke, Kyle and wife, Shelbi, Kenneth, Ellie, Colleen, Adela, Laura and Bethany Shellhouse; nine great-grandchildren: Cassie and Wyatt Dalrymple, Cody, Cale and Lilly Jesperson, Tucker and Wesley Shellhouse, Isaiah Cooke and Soul Smith; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Over the course of Ken’s life, he wore many hats. He was a fulltime farm hand at the age of 14. Ken and his family not only farmed their own land, but helped any neighbors who needed extra hands. Often times they drove their own farm equipment many miles to assist others in planting and harvesting. Ken also had the opportunity to haul logs for a few people in the area, but mainly for Chet Kibbey Sr. He also ran a milk route for Dick Jordan of Lottsville for several years. His most enjoyable job was the 50 years, from 1964-2014, that he was a school bus owner/driver. Ken was also a welder, learning this trade from his cousin, the late Marvin Shellhouse. He also constructed the playground and swinging bridge at the local campsite. You could often times find him working in the garage building on, or repairing something. There was really nothing he would not try to fix. He worked until he had no will.

Parting comes and hearts are broken

Loved ones go and words unspoken

Deep in our hearts there’s a memory kept

For a Father and Grandpa we’ll never forget.
