James Peter Thompson

James Peter Thompson, 91, of Falconer, N.Y., passed away from this life on Jan. 18, 2018, at home surrounded by his loving family, after a lengthy illness.

James was born to Danish immigrants, Peter and Johanna Thompson, on March 16, 1926 in Freeborn, Minnesota.

James was a Falconer area resident from the age of 2. He was a 1944 graduate of Falconer High School. He married his sweetheart, Joanne Weller on May 12, 1951, to whom he was married to for 50 years before her passing in 2001.

James retired as a supervisor from the former Dowcraft Corp in 1989. He owned and operated the Falconer Drive-In Theater from 1955-70 along with his brother, Magnus Thompson.

He was a member of the Chautauqua Squares with his wife, Joanne. He was an avid lover of high school sports and frequently attended various sporting events throughout Chautauqua County. James lived a very active lifestyle always walking throughout his woods enjoying the beauty of nature in his backyard. He loved his family more than anything and left behind a legacy of traditions. He will be greatly missed by his family.

He leaves behind his son Ritchie (Sue) Thompson of Falconer, N.Y.; two daughters: Candy (Dennis) Stufflebeam of Monroe, N.C., and Bonnie (Devin) Spencer of Glens Falls, N.Y.; eight grandchildren: Darin (Nicole) Thompson of Apex, N.C., Mike (Julie) Thompson of Scio, N.Y., James (Meghan) Thompson of Des Plaines, Ill., Stephanie (Adam) Walton of Clay, N.Y., Jessica (Jordan) Hymas of Springville, Utah, Ashleigh (Mike) Pilotte of Monroe, N.C,. Ryan (Nicole) Spencer of Madison, Wis., and Alicia (Vince) Schunk of Mechanicville, N.Y.; and 16 great- grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Johanna Thompson; his wife, Joanne Weller Thompson; brothers: Gilbert, Signart, Magnus and Floyd Thompson; a sister, Katherine Wypcha McDow; grandson, Austin Stufflebeam; and great- granddaughter, Carmen Hymas.

A special thanks to those from Hospice who assisted in his care for the past seven months.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- day Saints, 851 Forest Ave., Jamestown. Bishop Keith Fairbanks will officiate. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery.

Friends will be received by the family from 2-5 p.m., Sunday in the Falconer Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service Monday in the church.
