Lloyd Corell
Lloyd Corell, 80, of Fredonia, N.Y., died Oct. 29, 2015, after a brief battle with cancer.
Lloyd was a man of many interests. He solved the daily newspaper crossword puzzles and with his friends at Fredonia Food Mart solved many of the problems of the world each morning before the crack of dawn. He loved to tell jokes, good and bad, and laughed hardest at his own. He was a voracious reader of history and aerospace, played sports in his younger years and enjoyed watching them throughout life. He enjoyed the outdoors, including canoeing, hunting, birdwatching and gardening and meeting the families who stopped in for Christmas trees. Most importantly, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Born in Portland, N.Y., to Roger and Mildred (Genske) Corell. Lloyd graduated in 1954 from Brocton High School. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1954-61 as a lieutenant junior grade and pilot flying Super Connie transport planes between Newfoundland and the Azores.
In his 30 years with Great Lakes Color Printing, he worked his way up from pressman to production manager. He also continued to work in the vineyards with his brother and friends.
Previously, he was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Fredonia, and served many church council roles. He was also a member of the Masonic Lake Shore Lodge No. 852 in Brocton, N.Y.
Lloyd is survived by his wife of 54 years, Barbara (Anderson) Corell; his children: Douglas (Kathryn Kaltenbach) Corell of Fredonia, Kathryn (Willi-am) Emery of Enfield, Conn., and Charles Corell of Dunkirk, N.Y.; his grand-daughters: Emily, Tess and Sarah Corell; and his great-grandson Robert Corell. He is also survived by his siblings: Frederic (Dolores) Corell of Brockport, N.Y., Nancy Behnken of Ogden, Utah, and Jim (Linda) Corell of Portland; his brother-in-law Glenn (Cathy) Anderson; several nieces and nephews; and his lifelong friend, Frederick (Judy) Shuler.
He is predeceased by his parents and his grandson, William Corell.
The family thanks the staff at Roswell Park Cancer Institute for their attentive and kind care of Lloyd and his family. We are especially thankful for the wonderful Hospice team who came into our lives at just the right moment to comfort Lloyd and guide the family through this difficult time: Cathy Miller, Tammy Logsdon, Heidi Raynor and Bill Leslie are all truly angels.
Relatives and friends are welcome to call at the Morse Funeral Home, 51 Highland Ave., Brocton, NY 14716, from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 1. A brief memorial service will fol-low the calling hours at the funeral home. Full military honors will be accorded to Lloyd by The American Legion John W Dill Post 434 of Brocton, N.Y. At the conclusion of the military service, the American Flag will then be presented to Lloyd’s wife, Barbara, by Chaplin Fran Lus.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make donations to Hospice Chautauqua County, 20 W. Fairmount Ave., Lakewood, NY 14750 (www.hospicechautco.org/), or to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 334 Temple St., Fredonia, NY 14063 (stpaulfredonia.org/).
