Tax On Vacation Homes Could Hit South County

Some state legislative Democrats are proposing extending Gov. Kathy Hochul’s proposing a pied-à-terre tax on second homes in New York City. Hochul’s proposal would apply to properties that sell for more than $5 million that are not rented out full-time or listed as the owner’s primary residence. The proposal to extend the pied-a-terre tax statewide hasn’t had legislation drafted yet because discussions have informally been held as part of state budget negotiations. Jamestown police are investigating a shooting that took place Wednesday night on East Eighth Street near Fulton Street and another shooting near the 7-11 store on North Main Street. Officers responded to the area at 9:40 p.m. Wednesday for reports of a shooting that had just taken place.
