Sacred Dance Ad Song Will Lead Christmas Eve Services At Christ First Church

Several deeper meanings of Christmas will be illuminated through sacred or liturgical dance, and song, during Christmas Eve day services at Christ First United Methodist Church in Jamestown.

“Jump for Joy,” a liturgical dance troupe choreographed by Danica Olson, will perform during the 10 a.m. Christmas Eve day service to the music of “The Angels Cried,” a popular Christmas song by singer-songwriter Alan Jackson, and singer-fiddler Allison Krause. Both have received Grammy awards for their work.

The song depicts Christmas from Heaven’s perspective; while the angels rejoice at the birth of Jesus, they also shed tears, knowing the dark side of his destiny. An anthem from the cantata, “Love Be Yours, Love Be Mine,” will also be performed.

At the 7 p.m. Christmas Eve service, Kenzie Mason, a skillful interpreter and highly-expressive soloist, will perform “Breath of Heaven,” written by Chris Eaton, then revised and made popular by Christian singer Amy Grant.

Also referred to as “Mary’s Song,” the composition focuses on how Mary must have felt, including uncertainty and fear, as she became the mother of Jesus, while maintaining her trust in God’s wisdom and mercy.

The service is also a family candlelight service, with each person holding lit candles throughout the church as “Silent Night, Holy Night,” is sung. The Rev. Jenni Piatt’s sermon is “What Child is This?” which will ask each person to answer this question, and their response.

The Chancel Choir will perform an anthem from the cantata, “Grant Us Peace,” with soloist Kenzie Mason and Andy Schmidt, Organist, conducted by Director of Music Steven A. Woods.

Christ First United Methodist Church is located at 663 Lakeview Ave., Jamestown, with parking lot access from Buffalo Street. Everyone in the community is welcome to attend; for more information, call 716-664-5803, or see christfirstjamestown.org.
