City Councilwoman Kim Ecklund, R-At Large, is running for mayor.

In a news release Wednesday, the Jamestown City Republican Committee said it was endorsing Ecklund as its candidate for Jamestown mayor in the November election.

Wednesday’s announcement by the committee sets up a November match-up between Ecklund and current Mayor Eddie Sundquist. Sundquist formally announced his reelection campaign last month.

First elected to Jamestown City Council in 2004, Ecklund has since been re-elected by city residents each election every two years.

“It is an honor to serve the residents of Jamestown in my capacity as a council member at large and being chosen by the city of Jamestown Republican Committee to run for Mayor,” Ecklund said.

Ecklund has worked for eSolutions Furniture, formally Bush Industries, since 1989. During her time with the company, she has served in a variety of finance positions, including cost accounting supervisor, cost estimator and senior data management and costing analyst.

As a member of the City Council, Ecklund has served on both the City Council’s Public Works Committee and Finance Committee. Currently, she is the chairwoman of the Finance Committee, a position she has held for more than three years.

Ecklund currently serves as a member of the Jamestown Local Development Corporation and the Parks and Recreation Commission. Ecklund has also served on the Task Force on Efficiency and Cost Reduction and the Riverfront Management Commission, as well as other committees.

One of Ecklund’s top priorities as a City Council member and the chairwoman of the Finance Committee has been to maintain fiscal responsibility.

“I have worked hard, especially the last three plus years as the Chair of the Finance Committee, to maintain Jamestown’s fiscal responsibility and advocate for our taxpayers and businesses,” Ecklund said.

Ecklund is a graduate of Jamestown High School, Jamestown Community College and the State University of New York at Fredonia. She received her associate in arts degree from JCC and her bachelor of arts from SUNY Fredonia.

“She is married to Keith Ecklund, a former Jamestown Firefighter and has been a mentor through Chautauqua Striders for 18 years which provide them with a son, daughter-in-law and two grandchildren,” the City Republican Committee’s press release said.

Currently, Ecklund is the Jamestown Babe Ruth World Series vice president and public relations division director, as well as a planning member of the Buddy Walk in Jamestown. Ecklund has also served as a volunteer for multiple other programs in the Jamestown community.

“I look forward to this opportunity and do not take my responsibilities lightly. I will continue to work hard to make Jamestown a place people want to live, work and do business,” Ecklund said.
