Several companies are asking the state Supreme Court in Mayville to decrease the tax assessment on their Jamestown properties.

The impact on the city’s tax base, if all of the companies are granted assessment reductions, could be as much as $4,104,728.

A Niagara Falls rental unit company is asking a court for a roughly $180,000 reduction on the property assessment on four of its Jamestown rental units.

Budget Rental Units LLC, 2475 Military Road, Niagara Falls, is the owner of apartment buildings in Jamestown at 18 E. Fifth St., 305-307 E. Fifth St., 401 W. Fourth St., and 309-311 Jefferson St.

According to 2019-20 assessment rolls prepared May 1, the four properties were assessed cumulatively at $1,239,600. Budget Rental Units LLC officials filed notice with the city Board of Assessment Review to have the assessments reduced but the board disagreed with the company’s request.

Budget Rentals LLC is looking to have the assessment on the property reduced by $184,800.

In a second complaint, Budget Rental Units LLC asked for combined a $245,140 tax assessment reduction on properties on Lakeview Avenue from a combined $1,045,200 to $800,060.

Additionally, cases have been filed in state Supreme Court in Mayville by the owner of three hotels in Jamestown asking for property assessment reductions.

Star Hotels LLC, owners of the LaQuinta Inn on West Third Street, are asking to have the assessment on the hotel building, associated parking lot and a vacant commercial parcel reduced from $2,243,600 to $1,573,656, a reduction of $669,944.

Sandalwood Hotels LLC, owners of the Hampton Inn on North Main Street, are asking for a reduction on the hotel’s $4,100,000 property tax assessment to $1,820,156, a decrease of $2,279,844.

The Bottling Group has also filed paperwork challenging the assessment for its 224 Washington St. building from $925,000 to $200,000, a requested decrease of $725,000.
