Cherry Creek Approves Dissolution

CHERRY CREEK — Village of Cherry Creek residents have voted in favor of dissolution.

Thursday’s unofficial vote resulted in 70 in favor of dissolution and 32 opposed. Ten absentee ballots were mailed, with only eight having been returned by voting time. Six affidavit votes were also taken.

“We have to create a plan to be able to transfer everything over to the town, that would be the next step, said Cherry Creek Mayor Bruce Fish. “We have four months, but that’s not carved in stone. The very next thing will be to talk to the supervisor of the town and get a sense of what he might be looking for.”

Fish said he’s optimistic that, while it will be a lot of work, the transition process will go smoothly.

“I think it’s a lot of work, but I think it will go fine,” Fish said. “We haven’t (discussed it yet), because it seemed like trying to make a plan before the vote would be a lot of wasted time.”

He later added, a bit wistfully, “I don’t want to see the village go away, but we’ll do what we have to do.”

Bill Tuggle from the Chautauqua County Board of Elections, stated that there are approximately 240 eligible Cherry Creek village voters, meaning that about 42.5 percent of voters turned up to the polls.

Official voting results will be released Feb. 8.

Starting at $3.50/week.
