The Section VI Division 4 flag football league recently announced its all-star teams along with the top two players on both offense and defense. Out of those four players only one was not a senior, but Fredonia freshman Megan Ivory certainly competed like she had plenty of experience.
Ivory led all of Section VI in sacks with 39, had the most tackles for loss at 60, pulled 102 flags and defended 10 passes to quickly establish herself as one of the top defenders in the section earning the league’s co-Defensive Player of the Year honors.
Ivory was not alone in the Fredonia youth movement with fellow freshman Nora Polhamus being named to the first-team defense as a safety. Polhamus reeled in six interceptions and returned two for a touchdown, defended 27 passes and had 59 flag pulls this season.
Fredonia was just as good on offense with quarterback Sophia Utegg, running back Emma Perry, wide receiver Madelyn Polhamus and utility player Juliana Snyder all being named to the first-team offense.
Utegg went 150 of 274 for 2,088 yards with 47 touchdowns and 10 interceptions through the air; she also amassed 482 rushing yards on 81 attempts with eight touchdowns and 55 total touchdowns on the season. Perry rushed for the second most yards in Section VI with 1,760 on 194 carries with 26 touchdowns. She also caught 11 passes for 80 yards and another two touchdowns. Polhamus caught 39 passes for 791 yards and 24 touchdowns. Snyder rushed for another 515 yards on 88 carries with five touchdowns for the Hillbillies and caught 12 passes for 83 yards and a touchdown.

Southwestern/Frewsburg had a pair of all-stars on both sides of the ball with Abery Harvey at center/tight end, Elysse Gruber at center/tight end, Jaden Jimerson at cornerback and Rozlyn Haglund at utility on defense.
Harvey caught 22 passes for 212 yards and four touchdowns, along with rushing twice for 68 yards and a touchdown. Gruber reeled in 19 passes for 259 yards and four touchdowns. Jimerson had two interceptions and four passes defended with 13 flag pulls, while Haglund had another two picks with four passes defended and 35 flag pulls.
Pioneer finished the season not only as league champions, but undefeated as the Class C state champions.
The Panthers racked up the most postseason awards among Division 4 with Jayden Leederman named co-Offensive Player of the Year with Iroquois’ Olivia Spanitz; Lilly Kless earned co-Defensive Player of the Year; Chris Edwards was named the Coach of the Year; and Ellie Edwards was named the overall Player of the Year.
The Team Sportsmanship award was given to Tonawanda.
