Jonathan Conklin Sentenced To 25 Years To Life In Prison
One of two men responsible for the killing of Westfield resident Mary E. Whitaker will likely spend the rest of his life in prison.
On Wednesday, in Chautauqua County Court, 44-year-old Jonathan Conklin was sentenced to 25 years to life in state prison.
The sentence comes from a state charge of second-degree murder, which Conklin pleaded guilty to in November.
Conklin will appear in the U.S. District Court in Buffalo on Thursday, where he will be sentenced on a federal charge for carjacking.
The charge carries a potential 25 years to life sentence, which, according to acting Chautauqua County District Attorney Patrick Swanson, will run consecutively with Conklin’s state sentence.
Swanson said he has no objection to Conklin serving a virtual life sentence.
Conklin’s cohort, 31-year-old Charles Sanford, is scheduled for federal sentencing Thursday and state sentencing in the county court Friday.
He faces a potential 15 years to life for the state charge of second-degree murder. He faces a federal charge of illegally possessing a firearm.
The Hon. Richard C. Kloch Sr. presided over Conklin’s sentencing.
