Truck strikes CSX bridge in city Dunkirk police received a call reporting that a semi had struck the CSX Bridge on Brigham Road before noon Wednesday. After an investigation it was determined that semi was travelling north on Brigham Road and struck the south side of the bridge with the top of the trailer it was hauling. CSX responded to the scene and examined the bridge and Dunkirk DPW cleared the roadway of debris. There were no injuries. JAMESTOWN POLICE - Michael R. Shafer, 22, of Jamestown was charged with two counts of aggravated criminal contempt at 7:30 p.m. Sunday after officers responded to a south side address for a domestic dispute. Through investigation, it was found. Shafer had valid orders of protection to stay away from two people inside of the residence. DUNKIRK FIRE DEPARTMENT A trash can fire damaged the wall of an apartment house in the city on Friday. At approximately 3:37 p.m., the city of Dunkirk Fire Department was dispatched to 787 Deer St. Upon arrival, crews found that the exterior fire had spread into the wall of the apartment house. Quick action by residents and Dunkirk Police Officers kept the fire in check until firefighters could open the wall and extinguish it. ELLICOTT POLICE - Mark R. Burch Jr, ,32 , of Jamestown was charged with petit larceny, resisting arrest, and seventh-degree criminal possession of controlled substance at 7:18 p.m. March 2 after Ellicott police officers responded to a shoplifting complaint where it is alleged Burch took property from an Ellicott business without paying. Burch allegedly began resisting arrest when officers attempted to place him under arrest, and officers allegedly found Burch with methamphetamine. Celoron Man Sentenced To Prison On Meth Charges

A Celoron man is going to prison for selling meth. U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo has announced that Darin L. Butts, Jr., 31, who was convicted of possession with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine, was sentenced to serve 10 years in prison by U.S. District Judge Lawrence J. Vilardo. Assistant U.S. Attorney Louis A. Testani, who handled the case, stated that in July and August 2023, investigators conducted seven controlled purchases of methamphetamine and fentanyl from Butts.
