FALCONER — A comment made to a teacher in November by a Falconer teen ultimately led to child endangerment charges for two village residents after loaded guns were found unsecured in their home.

The weapons, two semi-automatic handguns, were seized as evidence Monday by officers with the Ellicott Police Department.

On Nov. 29, the department received a call from Randolph Academy in regard to a 15-year-old student who allegedly told their teacher: “You’re not bullet proof.” The student lives on Park Avenue in Falconer, and officers talked to the student’s mother, 35-year-old Jennifer L. Jackson, and her boyfriend, 33-year-old Tyler J. Walters.

The pair stated that there were no weapons in the residence other than a secured hunting rifle.

“The issues were addressed with the parents and they claimed to understand the severity of the incident,” Ellicott police said in a news release.

However, the department received a complaint Monday from the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office after a video surfaced involving the same 15-year-old with two semi-automatic guns. The guns were found during a search of the home.

Jackson and Walters were each charged with endangering the welfare of a child; they are scheduled to appear in Ellicott Town Court at a later date.

“It is very unfortunate that parents would knowingly allow a child to have access to any weapons, much less loaded weapons after being advised of the past threats made,” said Det. Kevin Pierce of the Ellicott Police Department. “This case is exactly why, ‘If you see something say something,’ keeps getting reiterated. It may have saved lives today.”

Randolph Academy, through a spokesman, declined to comment, noting that the charges were the result of a family matter and not tied to the school.
