All three of the people killed in a plane crash this week near Jamestown were residents of Warren County.

According to death notices submitted to the Times Observer newspaper for publication, Linda Edwards, 62, was a resident of Pittsfield while Valarie Holmes, 47, was a resident of Youngsville.

A third person killed in the crash, identified as Alan Fuller, was a resident of the city of Warren, Chautauqua County Sheriff James Quattrone confirmed Tuesday night.

The National Transportation Safety Board said it is investigating the Sunday crash of the twin-engine Grumman American GA-7 as it approached the Chautauqua County-Jamestown Airport. The plane lost contact with air traffic control in Buffalo at 5:47 p.m.

The three occupants had been flying to Jamestown from Burlington-Alamance Regional Airport in Burlington, N.C., 20 miles east of Greensboro.

Air traffic control did not receive any distress calls from the plane before the signal was lost, only that it had experienced turbulence, likely due to the winter weather.

“I believe that, that was a big part of it if not the cause of the crash,” Quattrone said of the weather at the time, which included winds of 22 mph with gusts reaching 35 mph in addition to light snow.

Earlier on Sunday, the aircraft had traveled from Dare County Regional Airport in Manteo, N.C. to the airport in Burlington. It had last been at the Jamestown airport Oct. 28.

After its disappearance, a massive search effort for the plane commenced in the areas near the airport. The wreckage was located Monday morning on a steep embankment off Route 60, north of Turner Road, in the town of Ellicott roughly a mile east from the airport.
