Hospital, North County COVID Numbers Keep Climbing

Hospitalizations in Chautauqua County are reportedly at their highest levels since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. Officials from the Health Department reported that as of Sunday, 22 were in area health-care facilities with the virus.

That information came on a day when an additional 14 cases from the north county were part of 26 positive COVID-19 infections announced. Since Oct. 13, the department has reported 65 cases from the Dunkirk and Fredonia ZIP codes.

Of those cases, 15 are being linked to a private event that has created a cluster of positive tests in the north county. In addition, a number of Dunkirk clubs on the east side of the city have also seen a spread of the virus through their members.

Currently, there are 119 active cases with the newest cases coming from: Dunkirk, 11; Jamestown, seven; three in Fredonia and Falconer; and one in Frewsburg and Sinclairville.

There are five active cases among employees of and 38 active cases among residents associated with Tanglewood Manor. Eighteen employees and 52 residents associated with this outbreak have recovered.

To date, there have been 855 recovered cases; 13 deaths; and 987 total confirmed cases.

In Cattaraugus County, the Health Department reports there have been 407 total cases. There are 63 active cases through Monday evening and there have been 18 deaths.
