Corry Man Charged With Attempted Homicide

COLUMBUS TOWNSHIP, Pa.. — A Corry man is behind bars on attempted homicide charges stemming from a Saturday night incident.

Warren-based Pennsylvania State Police report that Tab D. Hunter, Jr., 36, 243 Shawnee Ave., and another known male arrived at 40945 U.S. Route 6 in Columbus Township on Saturday at about 7:45 p.m.

A female victim told police, according to the affidavit of probable cause, that the two men arrived in a blue Ford F150 and were known by the victim. After they had been there for about 15 minutes, the female victim told police that Hunter was “demanding a gun he believes was his (to) be returned to him.”

She said Hunter “became aggressive and grabbed her by the throat with the two of them falling to the ground with (Hunter) on top of her still choking her.” She reported that a male friend who was there “kicked (Hunter) in the face/mouth” which caused him to stop choking her and stated that Hunter “stood up and removed a gun from his person and pointed the gun at her male friend,” firing at the male victim at least three times.

Hunter then, according to what the female victim told police, “flattened the right side tire of her vehicle and shot her vehicle approximately five times causing damage to the front hood (and) windshield….” She said Hunter and the other male then left the scene.

The male victim told police that Hunter “made a statement to the effect ‘If I don’t get my gun in 20 minutes, I am going to kill you.'”

He told police he kicked Hunter to get him to stop choking the female victim when Hunter “removed a black… pistol from the front of his pants and pointed the gun directly at him” about seven feet away. The male victim told police he ran down a small path towards the woods while Hunter “was firing the gun at him.”

The Pennsylvania State Police’s Troop E Forensic Services Unit responded, according to the affidavit, and found five spent .40 caliber shell casings and five bullet holes in the vehicle.

Police also reported that the male victim “was complaining of pain to his right foot from kicking (Hunter) in the face/mouth area.”

According to the criminal complaint, Hunter has been charged with criminal attempt – criminal homicide, aggravated assault, strangulation, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person.

Following a preliminary arraignment before Forest County District Justice Daniel Miller on Sunday evening, Hunter was placed in the Warren County Jail in lieu of $250,000 bail, online court records indicate.

Police said in a press release that the incident is currently under “active investigation” with additional search warrants pending.

Online court records indicate a preliminary hearing has been set for July 7 at 1 p.m.
