Randall Holcomb will soon take over as the mayor of Lakewood.

Holcomb, a Republican, defeated Edward McCague in Tuesday’s mayoral election. Holcomb received 517 (57.96%) votes while McCague received 375 votes (42.02%).

“I want to thank all other voters of Lakewood for having faith in me,” Holcomb said Tuesday night at the Republican election party at the DoubleTree Hotel in Jamestown.

McCague, who currently serves as the village’s deputy mayor, was endorsed by the Democratic Party while Holcomb was endorsed by the Republican and Independence parties.

Both candidates serve on the Village Board of Trustees and touted their experience on the board as reasons for local residents to vote for them.

Unofficial results are provided by the Chautauqua County Board of Elections while absentee votes have yet to be counted.

The mayor-elect discussed how he intends on bringing Lakewood forward going into the future.

“My goal is to bring the board back together,” Holcomb said.

Other goals he wants to complete after going door-to-door during the campaign include renovating sidewalks on Summit Street and Terrace Avenue.

His opponent, McCague served as deputy mayor after the position was vacated.

In the race for two Lakewood Village Board seats, Republicans Ellen Barnes receiving, 524 votes (29.93%), and R. Richard Fischer receiving, 520 votes (29.70%), lead Democrats John Shedd who received 355 (20.27%) and Jay Yaggie who received 352 votes (20.10%). Those races could still be affected by absentee ballots as well.
