PANAMA — The body of a 56-year-old woman was pulled from a vehicle that drove into a private pond late Saturday.

The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office said it is still investigating after the vehicle was located in the water near Hoag Road in the town of Harmony. Panama firefighters and sheriff’s deputies were alerted around 11:30 p.m. Saturday after receiving word that a vehicle had possibly entered the pond — located at the end of a long drive behind a property.

Tire tracks leading to the pond were discovered by the homeowner.

“Responding police and fire personnel determined that a vehicle had entered the pond,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a press release.

Members of the Chautauqua County Water Emergency Team responded to the Hoag Road property and located the submerged vehicle. Inside, dive team members found the woman, who was not named by the Sheriff’s Office on Sunday.

A county coroner was summoned to the scene; the vehicle and body were later removed.

No further information regarding the drowning was made available by the Sheriff’s Office.
