CASSADAGA — As of Friday, May 3, the village of Cassadaga no longer has a mayor, essentially.

Upon visiting the village’s website, one will immediately see a list of village officials on the right side of the page, beneath the banner photograph.

The first position, mayor, is currently listed as vacant, as seen in the accompanying screenshot, taken Tuesday.

In addition, on the village officials web page, there is no listing for mayor as well, which can be seen using the following link: cassadaganewyork.org/village-officials.html .

In a phone call with the OBSERVER Wednesday, Village Clerk Roxanne Astry confirmed that MaryJo Bauer resigned from the position as Mayor of Cassadaga.

“She resigned on Friday,” Astry affirmed in the phone call. “We haven’t had a meeting to accept the resignation yet, but she wanted her name removed.”

The OBSERVER was unable to obtain an official statement from Bauer herself.

Bauer’s resignation was preceded by a series of inquiries questioning her residency status in the village, which the OBSERVER has also been unable to confirm.

Official action on the matter will likely be discussed at the next village board meeting, Wednesday, May 15.
