Candidates In City File Election Petitions

All the candidates that have announced they are running for office in the city of Jamestown have filed the necessary paperwork with the Chautauqua County Board of Elections.

According to the Chautauqua County Board of Elections, two Republican candidates have filed signed petitions for the office of mayor and for the Ward 2 seat on the Jamestown City Council. When multiple candidates in the same party file the necessary paperwork a primary election is held, which will take place Tuesday, June 25.

For mayor, the Jamestown Republican Committee endorsed candidate David Wilfong will be facing off against Jamestown City Councilman Andrew Liuzzo. In Ward 2, incumbent Anthony Dolce, who has been a councilman for 23 years, will be challenged by Raven Mason-Thompson.

Even if Wilfong doesn’t win the Republican primary he will still be a part of the General Election on Tuesday, Nov. 5, because he also received the endorsement of the Conservative Party.

Eddie Sundquist has received endorsements for mayor from the Democratic, Independent and Working Families parties.

In Ward 2, Dolce will also be a part of the November election even if he doesn’t win the Republican primary because he has received endorsements from the Conservative and Independent parties. Thomas Vitale will also be involved in the General Election because he received endorsements from the Democratic and Independent parties.

In other city races, seven of the nine seats on the Jamestown City Council will be challenged this fall. There are six candidates running for the three At-Large seats on the legislature. Incumbent Kimberly Ecklund, who has served on the council for 15 years, has received endorsements from the Conservative, Independent and Republican parties. Greg Rabb, former president of the council, is running once again for an At-Large seat with the endorsements of the Democratic, Independent and Working Families parties. Tamu Graham-Reinhardt, who was appointed to the council in January, has also been endorsed by the Democratic, Independent and Working Families parties.

Three of the candidates running for an At-Large position are doing so for the first time. Greg Lindquist and Jeffery Russell have received endorsements from the Conservative and Republican parties. Taylor Scott has received endorsements from the Democratic and Working Families parties.

In Ward 1, incumber Brent Sheldon has received endorsements from the Conservative, Independent and Republican parties. Sheldon will be facing challenger Timothy Smeal, who received endorsements from the Democratic and Working Families parties.

In Ward 4, incumbent Marie Carrubba, president of the council, has received endorsements from Democratic, Independent and Work Families parties.

Carrubba will be facing off with Brittnay Spry who received endorsements from Conservative and Republican parties.

In Ward 5, incumbent Maria Jones, who received the endorsement from the Democratic Party, will be challenged by Grant Olson, who received the Republican Party endorsement.

Incumbents Vickye James, Ward 3, and Thomas Nelson, Ward 6, are running unopposed.
