LAKEWOOD — A Lakewood man who police say was under investigation for rape has additionally been charged with possessing child pornography.

The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office on Friday announced the arrest of 38-year-old Jeffrey L. Shriver. The investigation began after a victim came forward to police resulting in the first-degree rape charge Sept. 13, Chautauqua County Sheriff Joe Gerace said.

The sheriff said he could not provide further information regarding the incident that led to the rape charge because the investigation was ongoing.

“We received a report of alleged criminal activity, which resulted in a multi-agency investigation,” Gerace told The Post-Journal.

Evidence was reportedly collected in September from Shriver’s Southland Avenue residence.

During its investigation, the Sheriff’s Office said “allegations were made by another individual.”

As a result of those allegations, Shriver was also charged with four counts of possessing an obscene sexual performance by a child.

No further information regarding the investigation has been made available. However, Gerace praised the work done by the several agencies involved.

“There was a tremendous amount of multi-agency effort,” Gerace said. “Evidence has been secured and further charges are possible as a result.”

Shriver is scheduled to appear in Busti Town Court, though no date has been given.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted in its investigation by the Chautauqua County Criminal Investigation Division, Chautauqua County SWAT, county Forensic Investigation Team, Southern Tier Regional Drug Task Force, Lakewood-Busti Police Department, Jamestown Police Department and the FBI.
