The search for a missing Jamestown man continued Friday as police, with assistance from the State Police Aviation Unit, searched various sections of the city with a helicopter.

The search for 35-yer-old Sean Carpenter went into its second week after the city man was last seen in the early morning hours of April 11 reportedly heading toward his home on Superior Street. He has not been seen or heard from since.

Capt. Robert Samuelson of the Jamestown Police Department said a state police helicopter was used Friday morning to search areas that were not easily accessible by foot in the ongoing search for Carpenter, a native of Warren, Pa. His disappearance has been treated as suspicious by authorities.

Police were seen searching in the area of First and North Main streets Friday afternoon before moving to the North Main Street bridge. As part of a search last week, the Chadakoin River was briefly lowered.

No new information regarding Carpenter’s whereabouts was known late Friday, Samuelson told The Post-Journal.

Amy McClellan, a friend of Carpenter, started the Facebook page “Sean Carpenter Missing Person Jamestown New York” to post updates on the search.

“We don’t really understand fully the whole scope of his disappearance,” McClellan told the Times Observer newspaper in Warren. “Right now we’re just doing everything we can to get him home.”

McClellan said a GoFundMe campaign has been started.

“We are building funds for a reward or any other costs that may come up while we’re trying to locate him,” she said, noting that many asked what could be done to assist the family.

Carpenter is described as being 6-feet, 2-inches tall and weighing 180 pounds. He has brown hair and blue eyes, and was last seen wearing a brown baseball hat, green jacket and gray and red sneakers.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Jamestown Police Department at 483-7537, or leave an anonymous tip at 483-TIPS (8477). Information can also be sent through the department’s 411 cellphone app.
