A recent report from Buffalo Business First gives an inside view of salary scales across the area.

The New York State Department of Education released a summary of the pay levels for public school teachers across Western New York, which BBF compiled into a report.

Each district is broken down into  percentiles, and the figures come from 2016 data. According to BBF, a percentile shows the relative position of a salary within a school district. If a salary is in the 75th percentile, it is larger than 75 percent of the teacher’s salaries in the district, but smaller than the other 25 percent.

The top reported 95th percentile salary in Chautauqua County comes from Cassadaga Valley Central School District with a 95th percentile salary listed as $94,733.

The median salary at Cassadaga is reported as $87,746 and the fifth percentile salary is listed as $41,774.

Chautauqua Lake Central School District reported a 95th percentile salary of $93,787, a median salary of $59,318 and a fifth percentile salary of $40,000.

Last year, Cassadaga Valley had the sixth highest median salary for teachers in Upstate New York, which was reported as $79,855. The median is the midpoint, which means half of the teachers in a district have a higher salary and the other half have a lower salary.
